When Gianna watched her sister Aria getting married to a man she barely knew, she promised herself she wouldn’t let the same thing happen to her.

Matteo – The Blade – Vitiello set his eyes on Gianna the moment he saw her on his brother Luca’s wedding, and Rocco Scuderi is more than willing to give his daughter to him, but Gianna has no intention of marrying for any other reason than love. A few months before the wedding, Gianna escapes her bodyguards and runs away. She has enough money to flee to Europe and begin a new life. But staying undetected when the mob is searching for her is a challenge that takes everything, especially as one of their best hunters and assassins is after her: Matteo Vitiello.

After six months on the run, Gianna finally settles into a tentative routine in Munich, but then Matteo and a couple of her father’s soldiers find her with another man.

Despite her pleads they kill her boyfriend, and Gianna is forced to marry Matteo. Her emotions alternating between guilt over having dragged an innocent into her world and hatred toward Matteo, Gianna is determined to make life hell for her husband. But Matteo is a master at mind games and their struggle for power soon turns into hate-fueled nights of passion.

I’m being generous here only for Matteo stars!

This review contains spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books.

Wow, okay here goes… I wanted to love this book. I wanted to love every single moment of it. Gianna and Matteo have been teasing me since Bound by Honor and I almost skipped Bound by Duty to read it but I thought patience is a virtue.

Maybe I should have skipped this one all along. The previous 2 books had very little issues and tiny plot holes that I ignored and instead focused on the bigger picture, a story has to be very captivating for me to do that and it was, so far. Bound by Hatred was not what I was preparing myself for. The writing was poor compared to the other two and it had an amateur feeling.

Gianna was the one who voiced her issues with the whole arranged wedding her father had planned for all of his daughter and she was right, but they way she went about it the entire time was wrong. She acted like a child and all that got her was slap after slap from her asshole of a father, this whole book made me feel weird, after a while I just wanted the madness to stop.

During Bound by Duty Gianna ran away before her wedding day and Matteo of course went after her. The whole time Gianna was away can only be described as a disaster. She accomplished nothing by running away and the whole thing just felt off plus she got her boyfriend of a few seconds, killed. All of the characters felt off. Aria actually helped her, even though she should have known what that would cause. The previous books make such huge deals with the wedding and their virginity and the family’s honor and name, that Aria of all people should have talked some sense into her or helped her in a way that would not get her into trouble when they eventually got her back, because of course they would find her.

Matteo was the only good thing about this book. Even Luca treated her like dirt, sure Gianna acts like a child throughout the book only to have epiphanies at the end that she has feelings for Matteo and he is not that bad, especially since Matteo has been nothing but honest and kind of in love with her since book 1. Overall, it didn’t feel like a continuation of the series, more like a rushed version of it trying to do something different and shocking, it didn’t work.
