“Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets the Sopranos…”
To the outside world, they look like American Royalty, giving to charities, feeding the homeless, rebuilding the city. But behind closed doors is a constant battle for dominance between two Bosses, cultures, and hearts.
Ruthless People is a romantic crime fiction set in modern day Chicago, and follows the life and marriage of Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan—rivals by blood and leaders through fear. Their marriage, arranged by their fathers in hopes to end years of bloodshed between the Irish and the Italians.
Liam believes he’s getting a simple-minded wife, one he can control, one who bends to his every need . . . the complete opposite of Melody. She knows exactly what type of man he is, and would rather die than give up the power she has spent her life building.
The Mafia of the past has evolved, and with rival bosses gunning for them, Melody and Liam will have to learn to work as one to take down those who stand in their way.
1 Marriage x 2 Bosses = 3x the Chaos

5 deadly stars!
“Mr. & Mrs. Smith meets the Sopranos…”
It truly did!
I mean, when you hear about The Sopranos you think, yeah like that is going to happen. And Mr. & Mrs. Smith was pretty decent too, so immediately you have doubt. Will it? Will it not? Well… let me tell you, it will blow your mind!
I was lucky enough to read this story as a fanfiction and I loved it back then, and I loved it now too.
Ruthless People is fast and utterly amazing. It unfolds quickly but thickly with multiple layered characters that unfold as the story continues and an amazing plot that will captivate you.
Melody Giovanni and Liam Callahan are both leaders. Each of them blood thirsty and vicious, taking no prisoners, in fact leaving bodies behind them as they continue to rule.
Each is not used to being told what to do and they are both opinionated and hotheads. So – in order for their leading families to join forces as the most powerful family in the organized crime – when their marriage is about to take place and the two meet, all hell breaks loose.
Liam thinks that Melody is just an ordinary woman, easily swayed and controlled into not asking too many questions and be a pretty arm candy for him. Wife, future mother and a lover. Nothing more, nothing less.
She on the other hand is too quick to prove him wrong.
“She fucking shot me. I had been so shocked and horny that my mind couldn’t even comprehend what had happened.”
You see where this is going.
These two are a force to be reckoned with. They hate the situation they have been put in but they hate their enemies more, so they form an unlike alliance and bond over their mutual hatred and desire to rule and concur. And when they don’t threaten to kill each other, they kill other people and when they don’t, they have sex.
“Every last person we kill is for family. If we do not kill them, they kill us. It’s the way of the world. It is self-defense.”
What I loved about this story was the fact that the heroine wasn’t the usual timid girl that doesn’t know what to do with herself and is all about preserving the peace while being involved with the Mafia. Melody can hold her own and she is just as ruthless as Liam. That was a first and a pleasant surprise! Prepared to be amazed is all I’m saying! Ruthless, blood thirsty, unstoppable when together but also somehow understanding of one another and strangely captivating and functional as a couple, Melody and Liam’s Mafia story is unlike anything else.
